Our Programs

We provide effective intensive and non-intensive 1-to-1 instruction in the below subjects:

Intensive Programs

Intensive instruction takes place 2-4 sessions per day, 4-5 days per week. These programs can be done with any school-age child.

This program builds math skills by helping students visualize movement along a number line and connecting that movement to different math skills. They will develop a deeper understanding of numbers and how they relate to each other, and how to do basic math like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and even early Algebra concepts.

Our Reading and Spelling program will help your student learn and remember the rules of the English language.  We begin by stabilizing the letter sounds through the use of air-writing, where the student “sees” letters in their mind. Once the letters are stable, the student begins growing their Sight Word knowledge to increase their overall fluency. Some rules include “When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking” to explain that vowel teams often say the name of the first vowel like the ‘a’ sound in sail. Students will also learn how to problem-solve when they see a new word and develop their reading and writing skills.

The comprehension program will help your student begin to visualize words, either when hearing a conversation or reading.  They will also learn how to organize their thoughts and put words to what they are thinking and feeling.  We explain to the students that they will learn how to turn words into pictures and pictures into words. This visualization of information is what allows us to remember and understand what we are reading and hearing.

Non-Intensive Programs

Non-Intensive instruction takes place 1-3 sessions per week after school. These programs can be done with any school-age child. Non-intensive instruction is typically recommended for a student needing support, but not to the extent of the intensive programs.

The AIM (Academic Independence Management) program was developed here at the Fort Wayne Center for Learning and is a unique program that will help your child independently manage their academic career.  An instructor will work with your student one-on-one to discuss homework, schedules, and developing healthy study habits.  They will learn how to stay organized, manage their time, and communicate with their teachers when they need help.  This program is ideal for middle and high school students who are struggling to maintain good grades but are otherwise academically stable.

An instructor will work with your student one-on-one on the subject they are struggling with.  An instructor will teach them how to think critically to answer questions and understand the topic better.
